This post is all about a Gilmore Girls baby shower theme

If there’s a Gilmore Girls sweater on the market…I’m probably going to buy it! So imagine my face when I discovered Makenzie Hayes, who created the coziest Gilmore Girls party as a baby shower theme for her sister, Cortney Thomas! I was BEYOND honored that they let me interview them and learn how Makenzie brought a little piece of Stars Hollow to Cortney’s special day! 🍂🍁
☕ It’s A Gilmore Girl! ☕
Have your notebook handy because Makenzie Hayes is about to help you bring Stars Hollow to life!
In the link below you’ll find some of the products that can help you recreate this cozy Gilmore Girls theme at home.

DIY Luke’s Diner Coffee Cups
Makenzie DIY’d her own Luke’s Diner coffee sleeves using these adorable stickers. She purchased the stickers from Amazon along with blank coffee sleeves, then added the stickers herself to give each guest the feeling that they were sipping coffee straight from Luke’s Diner.

It’s genuinely one of the easiest DIYs from the shower, but it adds that unmistakable Gilmore Girls flair we all know and love. ☕
Gilmore Girl’s Party Plates

Fall leaves, orange utensils, and Luke’s Diner-inspired tableware came together to create the perfect autumnal setting.
Makenzie found Luke’s Diner paper plates and Gilmore Girls themed napkins on Amazon, but one of my favorite details was the Luke’s Diner menu incorporated throughout the decor. It not only fit the theme beautifully—it also let guests know what was being served.
Gilmore Girl Place Card Ideas
Makenzie really showcased her knowledge for the show through the little details sprinkled throughout the event. Every element worked together to make her sister’s guests feel as though they’d stepped into Stars Hollow for a bite at Luke’s Diner.

Instead of traditional place cards, Makenzie used guest checks with each person’s name on them. 😍☕ It’s such a simple idea, but it’s exactly the kind of detail that makes a themed event feel thoughtful rather than overdone.
Gilmore Girl’s Baby Shower Cake

What Emily Gilmore would probably have an opinion about?
“Honestly, every single detail 😂 But especially whether the food was presented properly and if the decorations were elegant enough!” — Cortney Thomas

Gilmore Girl’s Photo Backdrop

What Was Your Favorite Detail From the Gilmore Girl’s Party?
“My favorite detail from the event was the photo backdrop! It made everything feel like we had stepped right into the show. I also loved all the little details throughout the event, especially the coffee cups!”
— Cortney Thomas
No Cell Phones Allowed

You know exactly what Luke would say if he were attending this baby shower.
He’d probably be thrilled to see Makenzie honoring his famous no-cell-phone rule—and even more thrilled to call out anyone who dared to break it. Lorelai included. 😂😉
Gilmore Girl’s Food Ideas

When it came to feeding her guests, Makenzie kept the menu practical while still making sure everyone could enjoy one of the show’s most beloved breakfast foods: waffles.
“We prepared the waffles before the event and kept them warm in covered trays. As the party continued, we replenished the trays so guests could enjoy warm waffles throughout the event.”
— Makenzie Hayes
And honestly, a Gilmore Girls baby shower without waffles just wouldn’t feel quite right.
☕ Coffee & Conversation with the Hostess
Makenzie was kind enough to let me ask her a few questions about this beautiful event. She shared her inspiration, tips, and favorite details from the day, so grab a cup of coffee and let’s hear what she had to say! ☕💕
What’s Your Biggest Hostess Tip for Putting On an Event Like This?
“Don’t wait until the last minute! Give yourself plenty of time to plan and watch episodes of the show for inspiration. There are so many small details you can pull from to make the event feel authentic.”

What is your favorite Gilmore Girls quote?
“‘Oy with the poodles already!’ – It’s especially fitting for me because I have two beautiful standard poodles!”

Which Gilmore Girls character influenced the event design the most?
“Lorelai definitely influenced the design the most. I wanted the party to feel fun, cozy, quirky and full of personality!”

“Lorelai Gilmore!”
Gilmore Girl Party Details
I love when a hostess finds a way to combine beautiful decor with a detail that makes her guests feel included in the theme—and Makenzie absolutely nailed this next detail.

She had Pop-Tarts available for her guests to enjoy and added a framed screenshot from the show featuring Lorelai offering Pop-Tarts to Rory.
It’s such a fun detail for longtime fans, but here’s what makes it even better: guests who aren’t as familiar with the show can still enjoy the moment. The little bit of context gives everyone a chance to be part of fan experience, while die-hard Gilmore Girls fans get to appreciate the reference on a whole different level.
That’s the kind of thoughtful detail that makes a themed event memorable.
It’s A Gilmore Girl!

A Year in the Life of Conley Reed
Time is already flying by since Cortney and her sister celebrated with the baby shower because this little Gilmore is about to turn one in January! Cortney was kind enough to share a photo of her daughter Conley! The Gilmore Girl everyone gathered in Stars Hollow to celebrate! I believe we can all agree she is absolutely gorgeous! 🥹

Cortney shared with me the birthday plans for her daughter—and I think you’re all going to love her answer!
“Her first birthday theme will be ‘A Year in the Life of Conley Reed,’ and I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate her first year. Gilmore Girls has been part of so many special moments in my life, so it feels especially meaningful to carry that tradition into her first birthday.”
