The mother daughter dynamic is beyond critical to maintain and should never to be taken for granted. Our mother’s play a pivotal role in our self-esteem and ability to sustain healthy relationships in the future.

We not only want to create a healthy mother-daughter relationship, but maintain this relationship well into our adulthood and beyond. This is why I’ve broken this list of activities up into three age groups to save you time. Naturally you can use any mother daughter date idea no matter what the age is, but the date ideas are organized as seen below. Women’s retreats are the best way to reconnect with your mom!

Have someone else plan out the day-time activities for you both, and you two can just enjoy the ride without the stress of planning. A lot of churches will do women’s retreat around Mother’s Day or you can look at packages offered in your local area.

2. Go To The Theatre

Going to the theatre will always be a classic and what a great excuse to dress up! Have a fancy date and treat yourselves to a lovely evening out together.

3. Hiking Trip

Go on a gentle hike in your local area and chat as you both make your way to a gorgeous view at the top! Don’t forget to pack a lunch, so you don’t have to do a quick turn around when you both get hungry.

4. Explore A Resort Town

When I lived in a resort town, it was a blast being a tourist and exploring downtown. Be a tourist for a day with your mom and enjoy window shopping and checking out any histrical sites in your area!

5. Ferry Boat Ride

If you have a lake near your area then see if there are any ferry rides available. Going on ferry rides in your local town can be a real treat to see the town with a whole new perspective.

6. Take A Day Class Together

A pottery class, art class, glass making class, or even a flower bouquet making class would be a blast! Check out your local community college to see what is available this year.

7. Clothes Shopping

Just do it!!! This is on my bucket list! However, I am terrified of going on ferris wheel, so I’m not sure how I’ll be when I’m just being held up in hot air.

This activity is best if you live in an area where these type of tours are offered. If they’re offered in your local area then I wouldn’t hesitate to jump on the next boat!

If you can’t afford to go on a full vacation then there are shorter cruises available for 1-3 days. Again, this is an activity that is dependent on where you live unless you’re interested in traveling a long-distance to get to the cruise.

20. Train Rides

I think this would be a pleasant trip to take your mom on if the route takes you through some beautiful landscape. Bring a lunch and conversate with a gorgeous view outside your window.

21. Go To Garage Sales

Are you both into finding lost treasures and getting a bargain? Then spend a Saturday driving around town finding garage sale signs.

22. Go On An ‘Excursion Tour’ In Your Hometown

Do you live in an area where the tourist come to see the landmarks and historical sites? Then you two should go on an excursion tour. These type of tours are usually offered in areas with lots of landmarks and sights to see with historical information. They typically take about a day and you both can re-appreciate the place you call home through the eyes of a tourist.

23. Scrapbooking

If you have a mom who is an avid scrapbooked then don’t underestimate how much she would love doing this activity with you. You more than likely will fall in love with scrapbooking yourself if you lean towards loving DIY craft projects. Turn on your favorite show like Gilmore Girls and scrapbook together!

Teenagers 13-18

24. Stargaze

Learn a few new constellations and then try to find them out in the night sky. The best Youtube channel I follow for short and easy lessons on constellations would be Learn The Sky.

25. Go To The Beach

Oh, the beach! My favorite place ever!!! Pack a lunch, go for a walk along the shore line, and dig your toes in the sand.

26. Concert

If both you and your teen have a favorite singer you both share then think about taking them to a concert! Rock out together to your favorite songs!

27. Zip Line

If you’ve never felt the rush of going on a zip line, and you’re not afraid of heights then do it. You and your teen will love the rush and the breathtaking view!

28. Horseback Riding

I usually see ranches offer these activities on their website and they’re honestly a lot of fun. I still remember when my dad took us siblings horseback riding and I seriously want to do it again.

29. Ice Skating

Ice skating in spring or summer is the best time to hit the rink because the rink is usually not as crowded. This gives you more space to do your ice skating tricks. Better yet you will get more wall space to hold onto to prevent yourself from falling. Either way spring/summer ice skating is an absolute must!

30. Flea Market

Whether you call it a flea market or a swap meet, this is a great activities to do if you love garage sales. Only you don’t have to drive around to find the garage sales when they are all congregated to one location. See what treasures you and your daughter can find!

31. Board Games & Card Games

Are you a card game / board game family? Try doing some one on one games with your daughter. However, I usually recommend choosing a game that doesn’t involve a lot of mental focus to play. This way you two can spend time talking while the card game or board game progresses.

32. Roller Skating

My mom and I went roller skating on our mother daughter date, and I was pleasantly surprised at all of the games they play for people on the floor. Sometimes roller skating rinks will do competitions like who is the fastest roller skater to who can skate the fastest backwards. Definitely a fun mother daughter date idea.

When I worked at the mall l I was surprised at how many ‘mall-walkers’ were there throughout the week that went regularly in the mornings to take a stroll around the mall. Walking groups would come regularly to get exercise and chat.

Getting your nails done by a professional is always a hit! Pick your favorite colors that matches the season!

38. Get Your Make-Up Done By A Professional

Find out if your local JCPenney or Macy’s does professional make-up and try out a new look you’ve never done before. Hlep each other pick a look beforehand and bring in a picture for the makeover.

39. Do A Photoshoot

Get dressed up in your nicest clothes and take photos of each other as well as get photos together. If you have a remote tri-pod you can have a remote controller that allows you to take photos from far away as well.

On Youtube there are Zumba classes that are super easy for kids to follow. Teach your daughter the value of having fun while working out together. The best part about Zumba is that you can make up the moves you want as well as follow along!

64. Go To The Local Pool

If your daughter is still learning how to swim then it’s a great opportunity to teach her! If she already is an avid swimming then having swimming competitions together and pool games is a fantastic way to staycool in the summer!

If you are a musical family then pull out the guitar and create a song you two can share together.

This would be a great event to merge with the tea party I suggested a while back. Dress in the nicest clothes and layout the teacups for a regal evening of pinkies out and tasty treats!

If you went to the library to pick up a few books as I had recommended a while back then crack open one of those books and share in the stories together! Read her the story and let her read back. It doesn’t matter if the book is for ages 3 year olds or for 12 year olds. Have a book club together to discuss what you both just read.

Put on one of your favorite songs and choreograph a brand new dance you both can share! Take turns coming up with moves until the song is finished and share your new moves with your other family members! Who knows the dance may end up becoming a favorite family tradition!
