Create A Spread Everyone Will Actually WANT To Eat

When I’m planning my food, the biggest factor I consider is the guests as well as the theme. You have to consider your guests first above your overall party theme. This is because you may buy a lot of food that looks absolutely beautiful and matches your theme, but none of your guests actually touch the food.

As you can see on the spread, I served hot grilled cheese slices and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I personally wouldn’t consider these sandwiches on theme compared to cucumber sandwiches or scones, but I know the guests at my party are more selective on what they will eat. And these were their favorite sandwiches, so I happily chose to make these over forcing them to eat fancier food just to look prettier in a photo.

While this dish was not on theme, my guests were elated I thought of them, and the sandwiches were quickly picked over.

Get A Cake Everyone Will Love

I promise, last time I’m going to bring up this piece of advice. Don’t get too caught up with choosing desserts that are on theme with the event and forget to consider the audience attending. Buy a cake everyone will actually want to eat! I’ve gone to events where the host / hostess chose beautiful cake designs over getting flavors the masses would actually eat. Before you know it, the beautiful cake is cut up, but lots of slices are still leftover and no one’s going for seconds! My crowd loves German chocolate cake, so I knew they’d prefer this cake over a beautifully decorated fondu masterpiece.

High Tea Tier Tray Desserts

When you think of a tea party, probably one of the first thoughts that come to mind is a tiered tray with food. We decorated the top tray with a happy birthday balloon and a few spray roses to give off an elegant birthday vibe without taking away from the tea party theme. You can easily get cute balloons at Dollar Tree like this one and similar flower sprays are by Valerie Parr Hill at QVC.

These macaroons were SOO delicious! We didn’t have very many leftovers after the party with this tasty dessert! The flavor options were vanilla and raspberry and while everyone praised both flavors the raspberry was a particular fan favorite. We purchased these at our local Costco, but we haven’t seen them carrying this particular line anymore! I did some hunting and found the original supplier in the link below:

Add Flowers To Brighten The Space

Something about live flowers just leaves a space more light and airy! While I love our plastic ring flowers, you can see the contrast of the live flowers vs. the fake in this photo.

Add A Selection Of Teas Near Each Guests

Imagine you’re a guest sitting at your own table and consider what they’re going to need to reach for during the party. Is there something you can have already on standby for them? Rather than rushing your guests to shift through all of the tea options before passing the basket to the next person, have a little stack already beside them.

Stage Instrumental Music For Ambiance

When there’s background music, there’s more room for guests to relax and feel they can speak freely. I’ve searched a lot of different instrumental soundtracks to get you in the high tea party mode, and this one is by far my favorite!

However, you’re going to want to proof the Youtube video on your TV way ahead of time to get through all of the commercials. That way when you reset the Youtube video to the beginning come showtime, you’ve already skipped all of the commercial on the video to avoid interruptions mid party.

Bonus Food Tip

At our party, our guests had a great idea of adding whip cream and fresh raspberries to their macaroons! They made cute little sandwiches that tasted even better than the original dessert! I wouldn’t recommend you make these ahead of time because the whip cream melts too fast, but it makes for a create social activity during your party!
