Travel tip tuesday

Traveling can bring the best out of us or the worst if things don’t go as planned. As an avid traveller myself, I want to share you with my best Travel Tip Tuesday ideas you’ll want to do before you take your next vacation.

This post is all about my best recommendations for travel tip tuesday

Create a Pinterest board bucket list

Travel tip tuesday

Search up the areas you’re traveling to on Pinterest and make a pinterest board with your favorite ideas. Don’t feel obligated to complete the entire list of activities you find on Pinterest but use the list as a backup plan in case you find yourself in a lull with nothing to do. Pinterest boards are a great way to spark creativity when you’re stumped on what to do next.

Have a bag ready with extra clothes that cover a variety of activities

If you’re going on an impromptu trip, you won’t know if you’ll be hiking one day or swimming the next. If your trip is extremely impromptu, you may have not even checked the weather forecast to see if you need to prepare for snow or rain, so have a bag already packed that you can grab when you’re running out the door. This not only will help you when you’re on the go, but your not going to get stuck buying clothes on your trip because of an unexpected activity.

Tell Your Bank You’re Traveling

Notify your credit card company or the your bank of where you’re going and when. I’ve had this happen to me before when I was traveling from Idaho to Maine. My card was rejected because my bank thought it was stolen since I lived in Idaho and now the card was getting used in the East Coast. Give your bank or your credit card company a ring when you’re about to rush out the door to your next destination.

Don’t Overschedule Your Day

Let’s be honest, some of us love to plan! And when we plan we get more excited about the different activities we’ve discovered in the area and our to-do list begins to really grow! However, you’ll find yourself rushing from location to location with no room to breathe if you have too much on your ‘must see’ list. Give yourself time to be present at every destination before you must rush off to the next. Too much to do in one town? Consider breaking the activities up into two days and stay an extra night. It’s worth it to avoid unneccessary stress.

Learn a few phrases in a different language

This tip is crucial if you’re planning on traveling outside of the U.S. on your next vacation and you don’t speak the language. Pick up a few phrases such as ‘where is the train station’ to help you navigate in case you get lost. Not only will a few phrases help you navigate your way around, but learning a bit of the language can help you connect with the locals too.

Enjoy The Journey

travel tip tuesday

This can get missed a lot when you’re a detailed planner. We can see all of the planned activities as destinations we just have to get to, so do yourself a favor and slooow down! It’s about you and your friends driving down the road to your favorite song while you glide your hand through the wind outside the car window. The trip is about playing ‘twenty questions’ as you are waiting in a long line or getting into a deep conversation about life goals. The destination plays a big part in any vacation, but it’s the little moments that build a memorable bond.

Save Emergency Services Contact Info

This is big if you’re in a foreign country! Always have the emergency services’ contact information saved to your phone in case anything goes awry on your trip. If something bad happens then don’t waste time trying to search up the information for emergency services. Have the information saved on your phone, so you can get help that much faster.

Packpoint App

You’re driving down the road, an hour into your vacation, when you think of everything you forgot to pack that you really needed for the trip. Ugh! I hate this feeling! Packpoint is a downloadable app in which you create your travel list, and the app will make clothing recommendations based on what the forecast will be for your destination. Download the app here.

Set Appropriate Expectations

Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean the importance of communication gets to go on vacation. Set your expectations beforehand on how you want the trip to go and how you will handle yourself if the trip doesn’t go as planned. Make sure your family or friends understand what they will be doing on the trip because if you don’t then someone is going to end up disappointed. Keep everyone on the same page! Ask everyone what’s the most important thing they want to do on the trip. Make sure everyone gets at least one activity checked off that they wanted to do.

Carry Hand Sanitizer With You

travel tuesday ideas

Even before COVID, I and my family carried hand sanitizers with us wherever we went! I can honestly say we went from getting sick all the time to barely getting sick at all. Biggest tip is to wash or sanitize your hands before you eat because that is when you are actively putting items in your mouth and making the most contact with your face. The more often you can keep your hands clean the better.

Keep Family / Friends Updated

Travel Tip Tuesday

Trust me, it may seem tedious when you update your family about your location, but it is a life saver when something bad happens. We live in a beautiful but dangerous world. You want someone out there to raise a red flag when they notice you haven’t checked into your hotel room at night.

Have Like-Minded Company

This is big! Are you wanting an impromptu trip or a very detailed vacation? You may be in love with the question mark behind each uncharted road or unexplored street, but are your companions going to like the sense of mystery on their vacation? I’ve seen fights unravel because one person wants an impromptu trip and the other likes knowing what their next step will be. A person who needs a lot of detail can get anxious if they don’t know where they’re going to stay that night, so make sure you’re considerate of them. Set expectations with your friends long before the trip, so they know what they’re getting into. Communication is key! 😉

Roadtrip Food

Snacks on any road trip is an absolute must! If you have a cooler, fill it up with your favorite snacks and throw in some lunches in case your trip doesn’t have any stops that you want to eat at. This tip is great for saving money and saving you time! Vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, and celery are easy vegetables to cut up and put in containers for you and your friends.
